Shaft Buying Guide

The right shaft can be the difference between fighting your swing and trusting it. Here's what actually matters — and why the only real test is hitting one.

The four things that matter

  1. Weight — the biggest driver of feel and tempo. Too light and you lose control; too heavy and you lose speed. Fit weight first.
  2. Flex — how much the shaft bends through the swing. Match it to your speed and transition, not just a letter on the label.
  3. Torque — resistance to twisting. Lower torque feels more stable; higher torque can feel smoother for some players.
  4. Launch & spin profile — the bend profile determines how high the ball launches and how much it spins.

By club

Driver shafts: start with weight and launch/spin. Spin too high? Look at lower-launch, lower-spin profiles. Our lineup includes Fujikura Ventus and Speeder, Graphite Design Tour AD, Mitsubishi Tensei and Diamana, Project X HZRDUS and more.

Fairway & hybrid shafts: usually a touch heavier than driver; consistency and turf interaction matter most.

Iron shafts: steel vs graphite is the first fork. Graphite (Aerotech SteelFiber, UST Recoil, Nippon graphite) saves weight and dampens shock; steel (KBS, Nippon Modus, Dynamic Gold, Project X) offers control and consistency.

Wedge shafts: many players run a dedicated wedge shaft for softer feel and better flight control on partial shots.

Putter shafts: modern options (Stability, BGT, Accra, KBS, Fujikura) reduce twist for a more repeatable roll.

The honest truth

Specs on a chart are a starting point — the only way to know your best shaft is to hit it. That's what a fitting is for. Book a fitting and we'll match a shaft to your swing, then build your club to spec. Browse the full lineup under Shafts.
